Analysis of Research Questionnaire

From my research questionnaire I found out that 95% of my intended target audience do not read the current college magazine, and therefore this shows that the current magazine is not what they want and so it needs to be redesigned in order to attract a large audience.
This also leads into the next piece of data collected, which is that 75% of students are not willing to pay for it, as they currently do not read it. The 25% that said they would pay for it are only willing to pay 50p-£1. This shows that in order to raise the funds needed to pay for the production of the magazine; I would need to advertise in the magazine. The companies that would appeal to my intended target audience and that would benefit from advertising in my magazine would be high street fashion shops, such as new look or river island and fast food chains such as McDonalds and KFC.
When asked how many pages they would like to see in the magazine, a vast majority said an average of between 10-15. This would be a good length, as it would be manageable to produce and not be too long; as if it were to long some may be put off and not read it all.
We also asked what kind of content our target audience would like in the magazine, and gave them a list of options and asked them to rate them. The top 4 were upcoming events, coming top rated 80% of the time, followed by competitions, then shout outs and then news. We also had other things such as Facebook news and fashion pages rated highly. The things that I will not include on my cover or contents page are History of the college or how to deal with your work load, as these were rated very low in our questionnaire and therefore would not appeal to my target audience
According to our audience the things that would grab their attention are bright colours and graphics and images on the front cover. It was also suggested that the magazine should be advertised, as most people when asked if they read the college magazine admitted that they didn’t even know that there was a college magazine.
When asked how often we should publish the magazine, the ones that were most popular were weekly (30%) and monthly (50%). In order to try and please the majority, I am going to compromise and publish the magazine fortnightly. This will hopefully appeal to a wider audience and also be easier to produce.
The contents of the magazine also included things like jobs, upcoming gigs and cinema and fashion rated the highest, and things such as chess club and Sudoku scoring low. This made me think of an upcoming entertainment and review section, with things like fashion, gigs and cinema and new released albums being reviewed. This would be exactly what the audience wants and appeal to the majority directly. These types of articles would be advertised on the front page as well as in the contents page, attracting the audience to pick the magazine up and read it.
The last question was if they would be interested in subscribing to the magazine. A majority said no, but I am confident that all the people who said they would read it if they thought it looked interesting would eventually subscribe to the magazine if it were to a high enough standard, as so many people who answered the questionnaire had many ideas on how it could be improved.
